Cultivation and planting
Seeds are sown in spring, in March to April, directly into an outdoor bed to a depth of 2–3 cm. The recommended distance between rows is 50 cm. The germination time of the plant is approximately 3 weeks, but if you soak the seeds in advance, you can shorten the germination time. Plant in a sunny place in good quality organic soil. The seeds for the next season are collected and processed in August after the plant has bloomed.
Sowing: March–April directly into the garden bed in sunny places.
Harvest
Seed collection, whether for the next season or processing, takes place in August after the plant has bloomed.
Uses and benefits
This originally Mediterranean thistle-type plant with a beautiful purple flower grows up to 2 m tall. Milk thistle is an oil plant containing almost 30% oil and 30% protein.
Milk thistle promotes the regeneration of liver cells, reduces cholesterol and blood sugar levels.
It acts as a powerful antioxidant, strengthens the immune system, reduces inflammation, reduces fever and cleanses the intestines.
